On my day off

Today was a day off work so I loaded this and got it finished. 4 more to go then I can start on mine.
Customer said we decided to get grandma's quilt top quilted. After I repaired and ironed it I was surprised at how lovely it was. All hand quilted. I'm curious to what the reaction will be.

Paula

Paula's quilt that I quilted today. A big one Dwarf's my queen bed.

My Bear's in the Cabin is coming along even tho I don't have much time to work on it. Surprising how much you can get done in 15 minutes.

Finally done. Boy has this past two weeks been hectic. Life sure gets in the way of quilting.
Mom's friend was rushed to the hospital in Oklahoma City and she needed to go and see about him. So two hours to her house then two hours to Ok C. Anyway I wanted to see him also. He is home after 5 day stay.
Then we went to Joplin Mo Two hours drive to see my best friend who is now hairless after starting radiation treatments. She asked me to make her some head wraps which I'm glad to be able to do. She called tonight and said it fit. Plus working 5 days a week. No wonder I'm tired.
The piecing relax's me.

Ugly Fabric & design wall

A friend ask me if I had a design wall and I answered no. But then sure I do. When next I needed one to figure out placement on this baby blanket, DH was still sleeping in the bed/design thing since it was 4-30 am I looked around and spied my board that is used to inlarge my ironing board (big board). Its only covered in cotton not flannel but they are holding on without pinning.
The fabric was in a friends stash that I inherited. I don't do blue so considered it ugly but needed a baby blanket and then there was this left over bunch from the DD quilt. I'll have to make 4 more of the gold brown. I found some red with baby chicks for the sashing. I guess this will be a stashbusting project since I have everything I need. Even the backing and batting, which I'll piece from left overs. I'm feeling smug about this project. And no I still have not gotten the borders on the DD.

Sunday, February 22, 2009

This is a project that I put up because I couldn't figure out how I wanted to lay it out. I guess I need a design wall or EQ6. Probably won't get either one.
The butterflys are from HIA and are really beautiful. The black and white fabric has butterflys on it. I looked for fabric that would show some movement but I didn't see it.

Half Square Triangles done

I finished trimming all the half square triangles.

It looks like a lot more than 192. We shall see.

Judy's quilt along

I've not gotten the borders on the DD but I'm excited about a quilt along with Judy L.

These are the fabrics except I forgot to put the Ecru in the picture but I have it. All except one are left overs from the Jorney quilt I made last year.

Thanks Bonnie

I was not going to start anything new untill I had finished two UFO's. That is until I saw Bonnie's picture of her mystery quilt. I fell in love. Hard. Now three weeks later, a record for me, here it is. I need to pick out two border fabrics. I'm sure I'll find just the right thing in my stash. I only had to purchase 1/2 yard of fabric the rest was in my stash.
We are iced in Everything covered in a layer 1 inch thick of ice. Brrrr. Glad for a lot of things especially a husband who cuts wood. I've missed a lot of work but maybe I'll get to go tomorrow. We will see what the road are like.

The first thing I was asked is, "who is it for?" Gosh I still don't know. Usually I know but this quilt isn't talking. Here is where I got the pattern. http://quiltville.com

Almost a year

Oh how time flys when your havin fun. Working and quilting and time just slips on by.

This I did for my son and wife. I hope she liked it. I had to work a lot so I didn't get as much sewing done as I'd hoped.

The quilt to the right I did for a cousin she likes it however she is only 6.

At least it is finished and delivered.

Her mom is making me a bag that is knitted with wool then felted. I'm looking forward to getting it.

This one is still a flimsey But I'm liking it. I had two grocery bags full of strings and I decided instead of starting a third I had better do something with them. After piecing it just begged me to add something else. Just the ticket I think. I don't know who will get this one probably the first person who comes along and loves on it.
I'm working on a quilt now called double delight a Bonnie Hunter design at quiltville.com. I just love her work.

Asian quilt finished

Yea its done and I'm happy with it. A different challenge for me. The fabrics are out of my comfort range which is warm autumn colors and designing is hard for me however this one knew what it wanted to look like after I got going with it. Oriental Butterflys are from Advanced Embroidery Designs. Hope you like it.

Need a miracle. I've got the top finished now to figure out the back. Here is the fabric, a panel of girls, writing, blue and a print. I was thinking of just borders but I'm seeing all kinds of things. I need to get this finished and out of here but I'm stuck. Any help.

Asian quilt

This is what I've been working on the last two weeks. The colors are bright and crisp which is a step outside of the box for me as most of my fabrics are more in the dull fall range. Oh well maybe I'm branching out. Anyway here they are.

This is a customers quilt. Patricia did a wonderful job piecing it. It is the largest quilt I've gotten 108" X 110". I love the colors she used and its just as pretty on the back as the front. It took 11 full bobbins to quilt it.

quilt finish

I'm proud this is finished. It has taken up space and too much time. I feel like I'll have my sewing room back. It is a king size quilt that I was asked to make for a friend. I told him he was not that good of a friend then when he told me how much he would pay me I decided he was a friend for life. 50 plus years and still goin strong type of friendship. I used a thread that changed from light beige to dark brown. I think I really like it. Since its scraps some of the fabrics stand out but thats ok. It did make a dent in my scrap pile.

Christmas Stocking

Boy what ever happened to the summer. Last post was in May. Well here is what I sewed up this am. I started a job at Hancocks a popular fabric store here in Oklahoma. This is a cheater fabric that they are selling. It will be put up as a sample. I quilted the front and added some sparkle then sewed the back and lining in one step. Turned it all and pressed. Then I added the spur. I'm pleased with it.

This has been done for awhile Judy L had it on her blog. Quilt for an hour a day project. Thanks Judy. It is all done with scraps except for the final border. I ran out of Purple. My granddaughter loves it. Good thing its her graduation present. I've got one week to get it quilted. It was a fun quilt to make. However it took some digging to get all that fabric dug out I'm happy with it.

Some things I've been working on. Simple sewing to use up stash and to have some on had to give as gifts.
These are all scrappy quilts. I do love the Arkansas crossroads. It will stay on the guest bed.
The small western one is to have on hand for the next boy baby. The red and blue fabric was given to me. I've had them for a number of years they just would not go into a project. When I had this idea it was a yea moment.

Staying busy

April is a busy month in Oklahoma and with a late freeze that hurt our grapes, pecan trees and garden. Well I've been busy cleaning up. But made some time for quilting and have a strippy quilt top and a small quilt to show for it. The small one is just my blocks that I've tested embroidery designs on. I hate to throw them away. Then I did some string piecing and fancy stitch's around them.

April block

I thought an easy Tulip block was in order today. I used hand dyed fabric's and it turned out bright. I'm thinking of doing a block of the month just for myself whatever suits my fancy for that month.

Monday, March 26, 2007

I think mom liked her bag. I've been thinking I've not shown my quilts. I better get busy and post pictures of them. However as soon as they are finished seems like they fly away.

Fishy story

Number 4 grandchild has a fishy story to tell. Seems this is his first time to use plastic worm to fish with. Dad says he did not touch the fishing pole but talked little red head thru it. This child is a delight and I'm so glad for him. The fish weighed in at a little over 5 lbs thats big for an Oklahoma stock pond. Seems the fish was a fighter and almost pulled little red head into the pond. WTG.

Mom's gift

Tomorrow is Mom's 81 birthday party. So I made her a bag because I could. Hopeful that she gets to carry it for a long time. I didn't have a pattern so I'm happy that it turned out well. The hard part was finding a design. She loves flowers, fishing, anything out of doors and raises Border Collies. I'm proud of it.

babysitting

Miss Sunshine is here with me for awhile she is 4 and very handy. She likes for grandma to sew for her and helped in the design of a dress today. She very much knew how she wanted it made.

Here she is feeding the wild geese. Since its getting warm we also made her a pair of shorts. She's wearing them. Shorts, dress and a pair of pants. Tomorrow we are making tops to go with them.
